This is a new venture for me (as of summer 2024). I became drawn to derelict and abandoned buildings through the work of James Kerwin and Nick Carver. As with my other architectural work, I wondered if this genre could be applied to my local area. James Kerwin finds remarkable abandoned mosques, churches and civic buildings throughout Europe, whilst Nick Carver shoots ‘dead inside’ empty office blocks in California. Dumfries perhaps doesn’t have the same size and complexity of architectural heritage, but hidden away, I discovered, there are gems to be found.
After some successful trips near home I have begun to venture further afield. More images and areas will be posted as the project develops.
