Dusseldorf and Hamburg

This month’s photo trip was to Dusseldorf and Hamburg. The weather was mostly terrific and I managed to photograph a number of different buildings. Top of the list was the Hyatt hotel which has a wonderful staircase leading to the sky. I hadn’t realised that the central part of the stairway can be raised to allow cars into the reception area for launch events. So day one was a bust, luckily it was back to normal on day two.

Close to the Hyatt is a series of buildings designed by Frank Gehry. I tried a high key style for some of these shots which I’ve never done before. Many thanks to Les Forrester for the inspiration. And I couldn’t resist a ‘look-up’ shot further into town. Old habits…

I also tried some street photography which is another new venture. Certainly fun on a sunny day.

A long train trip to Hamburg was rewarded by visits to a number of famous landmarks. They all photographed well, but my favourite is this shot in the city centre, taken while waiting for the rain to stop. Its a nice sister picture to the shot on the right, which I took a couple of years ago in London.

Finally, I added two more images to the ‘12 Big Pictures’ series. It’s good fun to do these and the flash always pops in a bit of extra colour. As a quick update, Katy and Lorna have now broken through the £3000 barrier, so well done to them. I’m giving a number of talks to camera clubs this year in return for a donation to the their chosen charities, so hopefully that figure will rise. If you want to contribute, here’s the link.

Next month I’ll be spending a few days in Glencoe. I haven’t done landscape photography since Assynt in 2021 , so this trip will be an opportunity to try it again.
